Tiffany is a calm, caring and supportive teacher whose main concern is helping you love your voice and all it can do. Additionally, you may want to choose a teacher who has been trained to work with the voice to avoid vocal injury and prolong your singing voice to a healthy, old age. Some college music majors (but not all) take a class called Vocal Pedagogy where they learn how to teach voice specifically and how to safely work with voices. Not only has Tiffany had many years of these classes from undergrad through doctoral levels, but she has now taught vocal pedagogy classes for 15 years. In addition to this, her 25+ years of voice teaching experience has given her the ability to work with most every kind of vocal issue that may arise. Tiffany is also continually adding new training and learning to help her stay current with the voice world and ensure that you are getting training based on current thought and understanding.
You could get a fancy microphone and earphones, but because we’re taking what you hear, feel and notice along with your needs and desires and combining it with what I hear and see, you really don’t need to buy those things (though you will see me using them to ensure you hear me as well as possible). As long as you have a device that can run Zoom and a way to connect it to the internet, you’re good to go! We will change some settings to give us the best sound we can get, but all the extras aren’t needed unless you really want to get them.
No! Depending on the timing, we’ll figure out whether it makes sense to take some individual lessons, start a package, or jump into the current session for you with the correct pro-rated cost for the start date. Go to the new student questionairre to get started!
Many students notice shifts in comfort, awareness, or ease fairly early on — sometimes even in the first few lessons. That said, meaningful and reliable vocal change takes time. Once you begin vocal study, it’s recommended that you commit to at least six months of regular weekly lessons to experience noticeable, lasting progress. This timeline can vary depending on factors like a changing voice, vocal strain, or specific vocal challenges. Our work focuses on building sustainable skills and coordination rather than quick fixes, so improvements tend to deepen and stabilize over time.
Yes! Tiffany has worked with all levels and abilities. Each lesson is individualized and meets the student where they are, helping them to develop a strong foundation in functional singing and make improvements no matter when they begin.
Body Informed Voice currently accepts teens(ish) through adults. Tiffany has worked with students as young as 7 years old and up to 60+ years of age in the past. If you have a mature pre-teen who you think would work well online or hybrid, reach out!
Not in the way most people think of “practice.” Progress doesn’t come from forcing yourself through long, rigid practice sessions. It comes from learning how to work with your body, breath, and voice more efficiently and kindly. Many students make meaningful progress through short, intentional check-ins, awareness during daily activities, and learning how to notice what helps (and what gets in the way). Practice can be as simple as a few minutes of exploration, noticing how you’re breathing, or applying something from your lesson while you sing in real life.
We co-create lessons together, and they may include:
Most traditional voice lessons focus primarily on producing sound. At Body Informed Voice, we work with your whole self — body, breath, nervous system, and voice — because your voice doesn’t exist in isolation. Tension, habits, stress, and how you’re using your body all influence how your voice functions. Lessons are collaborative and exploratory rather than corrective. Instead of telling you what your voice “should” sound like, we learn how your voice works, what supports it best, and how to give you more choice and freedom in your singing. This approach often feels gentler — and more effective — especially for singers who have felt stuck, tense, or misunderstood in the past.
Yes — very often, that’s exactly who this work supports best. Many singers come in carrying old feedback, self-criticism, or physical tension they didn’t even realize was there. Lessons at Body Informed Voice are designed to be supportive, curious, and respectful of where you are — not pushing you past your capacity or asking you to “just get over it.” We use awareness, body-informed tools, and pacing that helps your system feel safe enough to change. You don’t have to fake confidence or have it all figured out to begin.
Absolutely. Many students at Body Informed Voice are not pursuing professional singing careers. Some sing in community theater, church, choirs, or bands. Others sing for personal fulfillment, stress relief, or simply because it matters to them. Your goals don’t have to be big or impressive — they just have to be yours. Whether you’re singing for yourself or for an audience, your voice deserves care, skill, and freedom.
