The Cornerstone of movement

Now that you've made choices around your singing and your body is ready, we're going to look at the relationship between your head (skull) and your spine. Why? Well, this movement is essentially the cornerstone of movement. If you don't have the potential for movement in this joint, there are very likely to be stuck areas in other parts of the body, including our voice!

In the following embedded social media posts, we talk about exactly where this joint is located, and we also try on a few ways of "wearing our head" that can make a big difference in our sound and in how we feel while we sing. There is something about how we think of and wear the differing parts of our body that affects how we use those parts, and our head and spine are big contenders for mismaps in this area.

Once you're able to truly locate this joint (which can take some time!), you can check in every now and then and see if the possibility of movement is there. And, if you're in a trouble spot in a song, you can definitely add this to your list as one of the first things to check.
